Jeanette Sharp Smith was born May 15, 1923. She was one of five children born to the union of John Sherman Sharp and Rebecca Lillian Nelson. Jeanette grew up on the west side of Chicago, graduating High School and going on to earn her license as a cosmetologist. She never practiced her trade in a beauty salon but used her talents on family and friends.
During World War II she began working at Stewart-Warner on the factory line making vehicle instruments, a job she maintained until the early 60’s. In 1961 Jeanette was joined in holy matrimony to widow Eugene Smith. Eugene brought three kids to the marriage, Eric Eugene (Julia), Karla Smith Broadus and Robin Smith Anderson (Allen), and Jeanette brought her niece Carol Sharp. Together the two raised their blended family on the south side of Chicago. Jeanette made her career as a homemaker, enjoying an active social life with friends and neighbors.
She is preceded in death by her beloved husband Eugene Smith, her brother Rev. John T. Sharpe, sisters Ethel Mae (Judy) Rogers, Jewel (June) Sharp Jackson and Elizabeth Sharp.
