JAMES STEVENS, SR. Obituary

 

James Earl Stevens, Sr. passed away peacefully on March 3, 2019 surrounded by his loving family and friends.  He was born in Pleasanton, Texas to Willie P. and Alice L. Stevens on November 19, 1947.  He was the second oldest child of five siblings. 

 

James attended school in Pleasanton, Texas.  He loved sports and participated in Baseball and Track, but he excelled in the game of Football.  He wore his Letterman jacket with so much pride.

 

Soon after his mother passed away, he joined the U.S. Army where he served two Tours in Vietnam in his 10 ½ years of service. He received a Purple Heart during his tours in Vietnam. Part of his job was to train the younger soldiers and was known as Sergeant Steve. When he left the Army, he continued to work with the youth. He worked at McClennan County Juvenile Probation/Detention Center January 1981 to February 2002. He was recognized as doing an outstanding job with the youth at McLennan.

 

James is preceded in death by his parents Willie and Alice Stevens, sister Mildred M. Stevens and brother, John E. Stevens.  James is survived by his wife, Gwen E. Stevens, son, James E. Stevens, Jr., grandchildren:  Korithian Stevens, Tymarrik Stevens, great grandchild, Jeremiah Stevens, siblings: Sandra L. Harrison, Willie P. Stevens (Maureen), Earl P. Stevens, and a host of Nieces, Nephews, Family and Friends.

 

James left this life with happiness in his heart.  He was a happy man who had reunited with his childhood sweetheart, Gwen.  She was always his “Baby” and Gwen confesses that James E. Stevens has been and will always be the “Love of her life”.
