James Steptoe Obituary

James Daniel Steptoe "JD" was born in Navasota Texas on October 7, 1933 to Albert and Clara Lewis Steptoe; both parents precede him in death as did his beloved brother Albert (AJ) Lewis (Daisy) of Fort Worth Texas and beloved daughter In-Law Diane (Richard) Steptoe of Allen Texas.

He leaves to cherish his memories: son Gregory (Marta) Steptoe of San Antonio Texas; Grandchildren, Richard Steptoe Jr. of Groton Connecticut, Kenya Steptoe of Allen Texas and Gregory Steptoe Jr. of San Antonio Texas; Niece Regina Woods of Fort Worth Texas and Nephew Anthony (Joyce) of Plano Texas and dear friend Ms. Annie Brown; Step-grandchildren Jason (Jennifer) Jones and Charles Jones of San Antonio Texas.

He attended and graduated from Dunbar High School, Lubbock Texas. James entered the Air Force in 1952 and served 4 years. After basic training, he transferred to Sheppard Air force to study and become a Jet Engine Mechanic. Completing his tour of duty in December 1956 James entered Prairie View A&M College and received a Certificate in Electrical Trades and Electronics. He was awarded a Bachelors of Science and a Masters of Science in Industrial Technology. He became a teacher of math and scienceand was offered an academic year scholarship in Chemistry and Physics at Tuskegee Institute. After completion of studies he began work in 1967 at SAISD. Schools include Poe, Cornell, Lanier and Sam Houston High School where he became Assistant Principal. Additionally, James Steptoe taught Electrical Trades and Electronics in the evening division at St. Philips College for 13 years. He retired in 1987.

James Steptoe is a member of the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity and served as Dean of Pledges for 13 years. He received the Omega Man of the Year Award in 1975 and the Man of the Year Award from St. Paul United Methodist Church in 2010. James Steptoe is a Christian who attended  St. Paul United Methodist Church and served on several committees and is a Steward. On September 20, 2018, James D. Steptoe was called from labor to reward. He also leaves to cherish his memories a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends. A special thanks to Brookdale Oakwell Senior Living, the staff took very good care of our father and we greatly appreciate you all.
