EVELYN CECELIA WHITTINGTON

Evelyn Whittington left us on October 19, 2018 with her family and friends by her side in her home.

Evelyn was born May 29, 1947 to John H Sr. and Almarine Thompson in San Antonio Texas. She married Matthew Jeremiah Whittington in 1966 who preceded her in death. Evelyn was the second child out of six siblings. She attended Brackenridge High School in San Antonio, and received her high school diploma at Lompoc High School and Bachelor of Science Degree in Tacoma, Washington at Evergreen State College.

Evelyn was employed at Fort Lewis Army base. After receiving her Bachelor of Science degree, she went to work for the Urban League where she created programs for non-traditional jobs for women. She was active in her community as a business consultant helping Senior citizens with Social Security and Medicare.

Evelyn lived in Texas, Southern California, Washington State and Japan. Her interest included gardening, interior decorating and hanging out with friends. She had three children two sons and a daughter. Evelyn’s Father John and Mother Almarine Davis and her two brothers, John H Jr. and Clemon Archie Thompson preceded her in death.

Evelyn Whittington is survived by her three sisters, Emma T. Warren; brother-in-law Walter R. Warren of Crestview, Florida; Jeraldine Harper of San Antonio, Texas; Shirley Shaw, brother-in-law Michael Shaw of New Braunfels, Texas. Her three children are Vernon Charles Whittington of New Braunfels, Texas; Harold Dion Whittington, daughter-in-law Diahann Whittington, of Prince George, Virginia; and daughter Lashana Evette Howell and son-in-law William Howell, of Fort Knox, Kentucky and eight grandchildren, Gabrielle, Kadi, Jessica, Dontae, Kayla, Tiffany, Elizabeth, Caden.
