Charlesetta Mildred Wright Jefferson was born on August 4, 1924 in San Antonio, Texas to Charles and Mildred Thomas Wright. Her family and friends affectionately called her “Candy”. Her parents and older sister, Marion Louise Wight Smith, preceded her in death.
Charlesetta attended the public schools in San Antonio and graduated from Phillis Wheatley High School in 1940. Following graduation, she moved to Washington D.C. where she was employed by the United States Treasury Department. Later, she returned to San Antonio and began working at Second Baptist Church as the Church Secretary, a position she held for nineteen years. Subsequently, she was hired by the San Antonio Independent School District as the Library Assistant at Burnet Elementary School, and retired in 1988.
At an early age, Charlesetta joined Second Baptist Church. Until her health began to fail she was active with the Ministers Deacons and Trustees’ Auxiliary, the Historical Committee, the Willing Workers’ Circle, the Matrons Guild, and Sunday School Class #3.
In May 1964, Charlesetta was united in holy matrimony to Second Baptist Trustee Leslie Jefferson. He preceded her in death in 2002.
She is survived by her sister, Patricia Ann (Frank) Umblance; niece, Cheryl Anne Graham; nephew, Jeffrey Scott Mackey (one nephew, Byron Frank Umblance, preceded her in death); great nieces, Sandra Louise (Reginald) Croff and Danyce Suzette Dent; many great-great nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly; and numerous friends.
