Career: Barbara worked for the Richmond Unified School District in Richmond, California. She taught first grade at Lake Elementaiy in San Pablo, California. She retired from teaching in 1993.

Barbara loved life, and lived well. She was an avid reader, enjoyed traveling, and loved to host parties or get togethers. As a faithful member of Corinth, she was a member of the Sisterhood, and served on the hot meals ministry. She served on the kitchen committee and did mission work while at the Church of the Good Shepherd Baptist Church.

Barbara was a member of the Phyllis Wheatley class of "SO", where she served as president for a few years until her death. She was also a life member of the Prarie View Alumni Association.

Barbara married Dave Petite in 1962 in California. There were no children born to this union, but she warmly accepted his two children. Her love for- children, and her devotion to her- fiends was evident when she fostered two children for two and a half years until their mother was able to care for them, Barbara had a big heart, and a generous spirit; always giving and never expecting anything in return.

When her health turned for- the worst, she remained the same kind- hearted person she had always been; thanking people when they called or visited.

She is preceded in death by her- parents, her husband, and her- stepson Clarence.

She leaves to cherish her- memory: Cousins-Johnnie Lee Smith, Ruth Word Walker, Wanda Smith, Joe L. Word(Gloria), Gladys Word La Beaux (Sandy), Laurie Walker; Charita Jemerson (Robert, Jr.), Camille Whitlow, Mai Ion Bailey, Kevin Clay, Robert III and McKinley Jemerson.

Stepdaughter-Davetta Thibeaux; Special Friends: Lorraine Adams, Mark James, Joyce Knowles , Silas Macking; Play son: Robert Jarmon; Caregiver-. Margaret Hamilton and a host of other- relatives and fiends.
